No Search Volume = Opportunities
The opportunity to create keywords that are your own is a great way to really hit a new market. When you take a look at the Google Keyword Planner you may find certain keywords do not have any traffic volume data. Instead of seeing that as a “dead” keyword, take the opportunity to utilize Content Marketing and write content targeting this keyword. With the Hummingbird update from Google, useful content is now key to increasing your ranking on Google. If you feel the keyword you have targeted is one that answers a question, then write down that question. Then think for a while and jot down some ideas on how you could answer this question. The final step is to then turn that into an 800 word article that would be extremely useful to anyone who asks that question.
For instance, if someone was to ask “How can I create keywords?” I would hope that this article shows up for them as it walks you through the steps to create keywords and then rank for them. You have to use the new system of Content Marketing to your benefit especially as this will be one of the main focuses for SEO in 2014. You have a massive opportunity to own the keywords that do not have a high search volume. You can make this keyword popular and in turn, be the first in the industry to target these keywords which results in you being top in Google. One of our clients, eaegis.com was one of the first companies in the NAS (Network Attached Storage) industry over 10 years ago. The industry was brand new and so had no keywords for NAS products or devices that were being targeted and the search volume was less than 100 for each of their keywords. The products themselves had 0 search queries as they had never existed before. 10 years later, and many articles and content marketing strategies later, eAegis ranks on page 1 for over 600 different keywords related to the NAS industry. This is not a feat that could be accomplished by trying to penetrate a saturated market. You do not want to target high competition keywords all the time. Yes some are important and essential to target but do not underestimate the power of a keyword with no search volume.
Lead your Market: Be the First
When you’re the first in your market to target a keyword, more people will start noticing. With so much importance being placed on content, it’s essential for you to create unique articles that thoroughly answer the questions that your target market are asking. Don’t think about what keywords will bring you the most traffic. Think about what questions people are asking about your market. This will allow you to write articles that will prove to be helpful and you will notice the keywords will start showing up. We discovered this when we first created our website earlier this year. We wanted to rank high for SEO Services but realized that not many people search for Orlando SEO Services. Instead of trying to find another high volume keyword to target, we began focusing on this keyword in order to get an early foothold in the market. within 2 months we were able to get onto page 1 of Google and started seeing an increase in traffic only after we began writing articles that answer common questions regarding SEO. They key to being a leader is to first have belief in yourself. If you know who you are, and where you are going, you will be able to lead your audience to the same destination.
4 Simple Steps to create keywords of your own
1) Research what questions your market is asking
This is the most essential step when you are working to create keywords. You need to know what it is that your target market need to know. If you find their questions, if you find what they are asking, then you have the opportunity to give them information that they are looking for. This allows you to provide unique, fresh content that is extremely useful for these users which in turn will increase the search ranking position for that article. Google’s Panda update put a huge amount of importance on fresh content and with the new Hummingbird Update, they now serve up results in a completely new way. Google looks for every word in the query and understands the phrase as a whole in order to serve up results that are extremely relevant and also useful for their users.
2) Determine which phrases in the question would be regarded as a keyword
While I was writing this article, I decided on a topic to write about but I had not selected a keyword yet to promote the topic. The best way to create keywords is to first write the introduction for your article. Take a look at your topic statement and determine the most relevant phrase from that sentence. For example, this is the sentence I chose as my topic sentence “The opportunity to create keywords that are your own is a great way to really hit a new market.” There were a few potential keywords that I could have used, for instance, Hit a New Market, Create Keywords, Great way to hit a market, Opportunity to create keywords. Then you need to decide on which ones are very general or might not necessarily be searched. “Hit a New Market” Is a very general keyword as it could relate to many different types of markets, this means it would be difficult to focus the article while using that keyword. You want to be as specific as possible.
3) To answer the questions, create an 800 word article that both answers the question and demonstrates the concepts behind it
Two or three years ago, writing 300-500 word articles was great for new content, but since the Panda update, you need to have longer, more relevant articles in order to really help people. Short articles just don’t offer the same amount of knowledge that a longer, well thought out article can provide. Don’t spend just 15 minutes writing to get the article completed. Spend a few hours minimum on researching your topic. Explain every idea that you mention in your article. this is the sort of information that keeps audience members’ attention. The main focus of the article is to answer the questions that your target market is asking.
4) Create meta tags on the page to target the phrase you have selected as your keyword
Once you have written your posts/articles/content you need to create the <meta> tags and descriptions for the page. This will allow search engines to pick up the pages and determine what they are about. Your Meta Descriptions are extremely important as this is what will show up in search engines under your website link. The ideal description will be under 140 characters long. You can add as many keywords as you want to the Meta keyword tag but I suggest using keywords that are actually used in your article for the best results. When you create keywords, they can also be put into the keyword tag to help you start ranking for them.
How to successfully promote your Keyword
Once you have created these articles to answer the questions, you need to promote them in order to benefit when you create keywords. The best way to promote your keyword is to utilize social media and share posts and Tweets linking to the article. You need to actively engage your target audience and grasp their attention. The best social network to promote your articles is probably Twitter due to the fact that there are over 200 million tweets per day. Use the Twitter Hash Tag system to gain exposure for your tweets. This allows your Tweets to show up in searches that take place on Twitter website. Once you build up the reputation on social networks, you will notice that your keywords begin driving more traffic to your website over a period of several months. When you create keywords and start promoting them, you have the opportunity to become the leader for the keyword. This will enable you to stand apart from the crowd of competitors in your industry.
